This document outlines Lumary's implementation of the SCHADS Award (MA000100) for Australian disability and community services organisations. The configuration provides comprehensive award interpretation, payroll compliance, and workforce management capabilities. Effective: 1 July 2025
The SCHADS Award covers employees in social and community services, disability care, and home care sectors, with distinct rules for shift workers, day workers, full-time, part-time, and casual employees.
Default Configuration
The following standard configuration applies to all SCHADS Award implementations:
| Configuration Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Pay Schedule | Weekly and Fortnightly |
| Pay Calendar | Monday to Sunday |
| Supported Worker Types | Social & Community Services (Shift and Day Workers), Home Care/Disability Services (Shift and Day Workers), Full-Time, Part-Time, and Casual employment |
| Standard Hours | 38 hours per week / 76 hours per fortnight |
| Normal Hours Span | Day Workers: 6am to 8pm (Clause 25.2). Shift Workers: No restriction |
| Public Holidays | State-based calendars loaded with capital city gazetted public holidays. Additional regional holidays must be manually configured |
Implementation Considerations
Interpretation Rule Assignment
Workers can only be assigned to one Interpretation Rule per assignment. The system requires explicit selection of the appropriate rule based on the worker's service type (Social & Community vs Home Care), shift pattern (Shift vs Day), and employment type (Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual).
Pay Code Configuration
The configuration includes comprehensive pay codes for all allowances, penalties, overtime calculations, and leave types. These are pre-configured with appropriate STP classifications, tax treatment, and payroll integration settings.
Pay codes are not loaded and penalties and loading will apply in addition to the base rate. E.g 4 hours of work completed on a public holiday will receive 4 x Normal Pay + 4 x Public Holiday Penalty 150%.
Leave Accrual Management
Leave accrues on all Ordinary Time Earnings (OTE), including paid leave taken. This ensures compliance with superannuation and leave calculations. The system automatically applies leave loadings and manages annual leave cash-out provisions where applicable.
Shift Work Identification
Lumary assumes all workers on shift agreements are entitled to 5 weeks annual leave. Organisations must ensure workers are correctly classified as shift workers to receive appropriate leave entitlements and penalty loadings.
Interpretation Rules by Employment Type
Lumary supports 12 distinct interpretation rules covering all combinations of worker type (Social & Community Services vs Home Care), shift pattern (Shift vs Day), and employment status (Full-Time, Part-Time, Casual).
Social & Community Services Workers
All social and community services workers are assumed to be Disability Services workers unless otherwise specified.
| Shift Pattern | Employment Type | Interpretation Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Shift | Full-Time | SCHADS S&C FT SHIFT |
| Shift | Part-Time | SCHADS S&C PT SHIFT |
| Shift | Casual | SCHADS S&C CAS SHIFT |
| Day | Full-Time | SCHADS S&C FT NON SHIFT |
| Day | Part-Time | SCHADS S&C PT NON SHIFT |
| Day | Casual | SCHADS S&C CAS NON SHIFT |
Home Care / Disability Care Workers
All home care employees are assumed to be Disability Care workers with the same interpretation rule structure as Social & Community Services.
| Shift Pattern | Employment Type | Interpretation Rule |
|---|---|---|
| Shift | Full-Time | SCHADS CARE FT SHIFT |
| Shift | Part-Time | SCHADS CARE PT SHIFT |
| Shift | Casual | SCHADS CARE CAS SHIFT |
| Day | Full-Time | SCHADS CARE FT NON SHIFT |
| Day | Part-Time | SCHADS CARE PT NON SHIFT |
| Day | Casual | SCHADS CARE CAS NON SHIFT |
